Excellence Is…
One writer expresses excellence like this:
“Excellence is the result of:
Caring more than others think is Wise;
Risking more than others think is Safe.
Dreaming more than others think is Practical
Expecting more than others think is Possible."
Another writer expresses it this way:
You show how much you care by what you Do.
Always Givie Your Very Best!
Why play it safe, Commit to Excellence.
Then Make It Happen!
Dream Big Dreams!
Then Live Your Dreams!
Always expect the Best!
Live As Though Anything Is Possible.
One of my favorite quotes is from Dr. Martin Luther King; Jr.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even
As Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare
Wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven
And earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his
job well."
Dr King lived his life by this principle of excellence and today the world
remembers him as one of the great leaders of our time.
Aristotle said:
Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention,
sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of
many alternatives - choice, not chance, determines your destiny.
Excellence is always giving your best.
I love what Mother Teresa said about always giving your best, she said
“Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough.
Give the world your best anyway.”
Who will argue that Mother Teresa did not Give the world Her Best.
The record shows excellence leads to greatness!

Be the Best, Commit to Excellence!
If it falls to your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo
painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music ...
Sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to
pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.
All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be
undertaken with painstaking excellence.
Whatever your life's work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that
the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.
Education Knowledge and History
The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think
critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.
Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge
which is power; religion gives man wisdom which is control.
Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There
is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions.
Nothing pains some people more than having to think.
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and
conscientious stupidity.
We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.
History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social
transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling
silence of the good people.
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence
of our friends.
The past is prophetic in that it asserts loudly that wars are poor chisels for
carving out peaceful tomorrows.
The Measure of Character...
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of
comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and
controversy.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation
where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content
of their character.
That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time
is always right to do the right thing.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
Life's most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?
